A day in the life of...

Henry Weston-Davies, Consultant

Since I joined Lighthouse a year ago, my days have been both fascinating and hugely good fun.

The poet, William Cowper said: “Variety’s the very spice of life, that gives it all its flavour” and there is no shortage of variety in the different projects that I manage on a day to day basis.

Last week, for example, I led the presentation of a full brand review to a luxury manufacturer; we’ve recommended sweeping changes to the brand’s identity and market positioning. The next phase will be to drive those changes working closely with the client team. Later that week I was analysing and reporting back on the next big developments in the accountancy industry and their impact on the major players and their service lines.

I can honestly say that this is the first job that I have really enjoyed getting up for in the morning. Why? Two reasons: the work is both interesting and diverse.  And Lighthouse is such a strong and friendly group of people to work with. The hackneyed phrase that an organisation is only as strong as its people is so true at Lighthouse. It’s the people who have both driven and nurtured my development in the last 12 months and continue to build the firm’s reputation.

So on a typical day I could be in a morning meeting with partners of the Big 4 accountancy firms, co-presenting one of our prominent syndicated studies on the sector’s issues.  Before lunch, I’ll be briefing our executive insight team of interviewers in five countries for a market strategy project.  In the afternoon, I’ll join a meeting on shaping the reputation of a Magic Circle Law firm with their marketing team.

I would then finish off the day with a drink with the rest of the Lighthouse crew in the John Snow, just round the corner from our offices in Carnaby Street.
