‘Entering new markets, launching new products, developing new brands. It requires curiosity combined with good analytical skills’

A day in the life of...

Ben Kent, Partner

It’s the diversity of my job that I like so much – managing client assignments, tackling some fascinating business issues and helping to manage Lighthouse which has grown so fast in recent years. One thing’s for sure – the issues are very different from my previous career as a corporate lawyer.

The appealing part of our consultancy work is that it is about the new -  entering new markets, launching new products, developing new brands.  It requires curiosity combined with good analytical skills. And whereever there is new-ness there are unknown business risks.  It’s those risks that our clients are interested to understand.

My main specialisations are the professional and financial services sectors. My clients include Dresdner Kleinwort, Norwich Union, PA Consulting, the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales, PricewaterhouseCoopers and KPMG. A lot of time is spent out of the office, meeting clients and presenting our analysis. Communication of our ideas and our analysis is a vital part of our work.

The most satisfying thing is running management workshops. We take our analysis and work with management and marketing teams to plan how they should move forward. It’s just very satisfying to see an idea become a commercial success based on our assessment and analysis.

Recently I’ve spent a lot of time focusing on developing the skills of people at Lighthouse. We run regular internal training sessions where the team shares it knowledge of industries and issues, and we’re constantly refining the analytical approaches we use and our models.

We’re lucky at Lighthouse to have bright and motivated people who enjoy what they do. They are a pleasure to work with.
